About Guadalupe Aguilera

My journey began in humble beginnings in a small Central Valley town in California. I grew up as the second oldest of six in a low-income immigrant family from Mexico. I took on many responsibilities from a young age, from helping raise my younger siblings to working in the fields for extra support. This drive to assist those around me persisted as I realized the forgotten communities in our predominantly low-income area.

Leaving my small hometown for UC Berkeley was a transformative experience. Berkeley exposed me to diverse perspectives and allowed me to explore a wide range of subjects. While originally pursuing a path in the medical field through a Biology degree, the pandemic disrupted our plans. Nevertheless, I persevered and adapted.

Post-college, amidst the pandemic, I became a pharmacy technician, providing essential services such as vaccinations and Covid tests. Though the emotional toll was heavy due to the stories I encountered, knowing that I was making a difference kept me going. Yet, I couldn't ignore the system's flaws and inaccessibility.

Driven by a desire to address these issues, I transitioned to the tech industry. My research led me to pursue a career as a UX/UI designer. Now, I'm excited to see the doors I open for myself and others, striving for greater accessibility in the tech world.
